CCVC assist BBC

June 2002 The Colchester Cine & Video Club has been assisting a local BBC production unit with a programme about Thames Sailing Barges and the Blackwater Thames Barge Sailing Match. The Team of 5 lead by Roger Allen provided the BBC unit from Norwich with footage of the 2002 Blackwater Sailing Barge Match. The Programme was fronted by Paul Heiney a former “ That’s Life” presenter and local factual East Anglian programmes. The Programme called Sailormen was shown on BBC1 16th June 02 at 7.20 pm. Team leader Roger Allen said the team showed great professionalism everyone did a fantastic job. The BBC gave us a very tight time scale to work to, basically we had one afternoon to filter through 9 hours of footage to find the type of shots the BBC needed, we provided around 60 minutes of footage, obviously only a small percentage was used but we were surprised at just how much was used. It really proves that we can work along side the professionals, the producer Clive Dunn showed us a lot of respect and I think we were able to deliver just what he needed. Two club members and the CCVC had the privilege of being mentioned in the credits. The club will be producing it’s own version of the days event which will be screened in Maldon in November.
