WILLIAM MCCAULEY STRONG: Was born January 12, 1811 in Georgia. The date of his death is unknown. His wife's name was Elizabeth. He was the son of Elijah Strong and grandson of Johnson Strong. His children, that I have knowledge of, were Pennina Strong, Robert Jefferson Strong, and William Elbert Strong; by his wife. And Casteria Cox, William Archie Cox, John DeCabb Cox, and Amanda Cox; by his mistress, Elizabeth H. Cox. He was living in Burleson, Alabama in the 1850s and owned a plantation, just across Bear Creek on the east side. He should not be confused with the William M. Strong of Fayette County, Alabama. This William Strong was the son of Johnson Strong and uncle to William McCauley Strong.
PENNINA STRONG: Was the daughter of William McCauley Strong, she was born in Fayette County, Alabama September 16, 1833. She was married to James Merriman Thorn. They had six children: William Thomas Thorn, Albert Marion Thorn, John Robert Thorn,David Marion Thorn, John Lafayette Thorn, Mary Rhoda Thorn Berry. Pennina died December 13, 1913 and is buried in the Old Burleson Cemetery in Old Burleson, Alabama.
ROBERT JEFFERSON STRONG: Was the second son of William McCauley Strong. He was born March 6, 1843 in Fayette County, Alabama. He married Martha J. Nichols, October 19, 1868, at the home of James Roberts. He was a private in the 21st Alabama Infantry Regiment Company E.. He enter the service in Franklin County, Alabama; August 5, 1861 and served until it was disbanded, at Pond Springs, Alabama, in the spring of 1865. He and Martha had four children: Pennina Strong, Levie Strong, Jimmie Strong, and Carrie Strong. Robert Jefferson Strong died August 22, 1921 and is buried in Fayette County, Alabama; about three miles east of Fayette at the Whitley, Whitson, and Strong Cemetery.
WILLIAM ELBERT STRONG: Was born in Fayette or Franklin County, Alabama January 26, 1845. He married Amelia Rebecca Pryor on January 9, 1868. William and Amelia had five children: John R. Strong, Willie L. Strong, Martha Odella Strong, Lula Bell Strong, and Arrie Beatrice Strong. William fought in the civil war. He enter the service as Private on August 5, 1861 at Burleson, Alabama. He was in the Captain Newton Company Rody Calvery. He was paroled at Pond Springs, Alabama in the spring of 1865. He died April 9, 1918 and is buried in the Whitley, Whitson, and Strong Cemetery; located about three miles east of Fayette, Alabama.
