About the Lodge

Running Elk Lodge is our log home, set on 70 secluded acres in the beautiful Tusas Valley, bordering the Carson National Forest.

Guests will find the spirit of the Lodge to be delightfully romantic and relaxing. The warm interior is enhanced by huge fieldstone fireplaces and comfortable furniture. Throughout the house, the Southwestern and American Indian art, collected antiques and memorabilia reflect the diverse tri-cultural heritage of Northen New Mexico. Private cabins are also available for those wishing extra privacy.

The natural setting of the Lodge is a treat for those weary of city life. A pond and a stream flowing through the property are prolific with rainbow and cutthroat trout. The meadows and hillsides display a profusion of wildflowers throughout the summer. Miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails offer wonderful opportunities to view the wildlife in the area, including mule deer, beaver, bear, coyotes and, of course, elk.

It is not unusual, while driving in to the Lodge, to see herds of elk feeding and watering in the valley meadows or to wake in the morning, look up on the ridge above the house, and see elk basking in the first rays of morning sun.
