You first begin with a:
Normal 9mm gun (Click for stats)
When you find upgrade pieces around the world, you can upgrade the normal down 4 different paths that you cannot change over once you have gone down one type of weapon. These types are:
Electrical Weaponry---> A.K.A.-Lazers
Buckshots---> A.K.A.-Rifles
Pyrotechnics---> A.K.A.-Explosives
Fast Action Psycho-guns---> A.K.A.-Automatics
