sunderland.html

Hi, and welcome to my Sunderland page, I have just re written this page, as I think it wasn't one of the best, I wrote it when I started my site, and now it has developed a bit further. I have put an LED sign at the top of here, and I don't know if it has really worked, I don't know if Internet Explorer 3.0 supports Java, and I can't find my installation file for Netscape Navigator 3.0, so hopefully soon I will have fixed the problem.

Maybe someone could help me by e-mailing me and telling me if it is working, and if it isn't, and you or someone you know can tell me why, then that would also be very helpful.

As you have probably guessed, I am a Sunderland supporter, and I have dedicated a web page to them, if you don't know who Sunderland AFC are, they are an English football(soccer) club. They play at one of the biggest and best stadium's in England.

If you are one of our foreign supporters, or even if you are a Sunderland supporter in another country who moved from England(Hi geordy, lol), you will find a bit of information here about the club.

Since the start of the new season, Sunderland have gone unbeaten, there have been a few close calls, but we have kept it together and now rank 2nd in the league on the 18th October 1998. As I like the LED sign so much, I am going to put it somewhere on here with the score of the previous match on it... I will also put our league position on it. Hopefully it will be working when you come here.

You might have seen a black cat associated with the club, this is because that is our mascot, Samson the cat is a big black cat who dances about before the match starts, I haven't got a picture of him, but now you know what the black cat on my page is about.

In case you haven't heard yet, Sunderland have moved to a new state of the art 41,600 seater stadium, and it is supposed to be expanding sometime in the near future, which is a BIG improvement upon Roker park. The "Stadium of Light" is near the river Wear, built on the site of the former Wearmouth colliery, and in a tribute, Sunderland have put a giant Davey lamp(this was a brass, gas safety light which the miners used to use in the coal mines) outside the stadium. It is there as a tribute to the miners who used to work there. I have see the lamp, an it is a compliment to the stadium, I would recommend anyone who is planning a trip to the North East, to go and see the Stadium of Light.

Roker park was pulled down in 1997, 1 year before it's 100th anniversary. Now they have started building houses on the site, and I've heard they are going to name the streets after the famous stands - the Main Stand, the Roker End, the Fulwell end, and the Clock Stand.

This is only a small piece of information on the club's current performance, and their new stadium. To find out more about Sunderland afc, visit the Sunderland site at the link below. Alex Rae is also planning a website, so when it is finished, I will be putting another link at the bottom of this page. And if you haven't been there already, visit my home page, I have been working on my site for a while now, and I am pretty much happy with it, I could add a few more pictures to my angelfire site, but I will hold off for now, I am trying to find the perfect pictures.
