KASEY ROGERS (Louise Tate from 1966-1972)
Kasey Rogers was born in Missouri but lived in California most of her childhood. At two and a half years of age, she began taking elocution lessons, and when she was eight, she was playing the piano at the Hollywood Bowl and the Shrine Auditorium. Kasey went to Burbank High School in Burbank, California, and became interested in acting while doing school plays.
At nineteen she married, and while attending Glendale College, her interest in drama became dominant. She won her first professional job in the entertainment industry as a dancer in an Earl Carrol show. Soon after, she signed with top agency MCA and received her first film lead in the Paramount Pictures release of Special Agent (1949).
Kasey's talents were employed in a wide range of roles at Paramount: horse operas with Joel McCrea, heavy drama with the late Robert Walker, comedy with Bob Hope, and adventure with Sterling Hayden. Other Kasey movie credits include Cecil B. DeMille's Samson and Delilah (1950), Frank Capra's Riding High (also 1950), Silver City (1951), George Stevens's A Place in the Sun (1951), Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train (1951), costarring Marion Lorne, in which she says she played, "the consummate bitch and loved it,") Denver and Rio Grande (1952), and Jamaica Run (1953). All of her movie work was done under the stage name of Laura Elliot.
Besides Bewitched, Kasey has made more than five hundred television appearances, including guest shots on the classic Mission Impossible, The Lucy Show, and Flamingo Road. She played Julie Anderson for two years on Peyton Place prior to Bewitched, acted in an episode of The Lone Ranger, played a killer on Perry Mason, and was in two segments of Wanted Dead or Alive in 1959 and 1960.
One of the last surving cast members, Kasey died on July 7, 2006. She is survived by her four children and close friend Mark Wood (The Bewitched Cookbook, Kensington, 1996).
The 2006 Bewitched Convention, organized by my friend Mark Simpson, will be dedicated to Miss Kasey Rogers.
