MABEL ALBERTSON (Phyllis Stephens)

Mabel Albertson was born in 1901. Her career spanned nearly thirty-five years. Mabel appeared in films, including, Mutiny on the Black Hawk (1938), My Pal Gus (1952), She's Back on Broadway (1953), Forever Darling (1956), The Long Hot Summer (1958), Home Before Dark (1958), Don't Give Up the Ship (1959), Barefoot in the Park (1967), and What's Up, Doc? (1972). Besides Bewitched, Albertson played similar wise-cracking mothers and mothers-in-law on TV shows such as That's My Boy, The Whiting Girls (playing grandma to Tom Ewell), and That Girl, in which she portrayed another famous mortal man's mom-Ted Bessell's Don Holinger (the one and only love of Marlo Thomas's Ann Marie).

Mabel Albertson, who was mother-in-law in real life of actress Cloris Leachman, died in 1982 of Alzheimer's disease.
