My passion as regards bridge is reading match records. When I became known with the great Terence
Reese, I showed to him some quizzes I had written taken from real-life deals at the top level. The great
man liked them, it seems, for he proposed to rewrite them and co-author them. This he did, and the
articles were published in various magazines around the globe, including Bridge Plus, the Dutch magazine,
and the now defunct European Bridge. The title of the series was A Real Test.
When the great man died, in January 1996, there were 24 articles in the series. Some of them are presented here. Those who know the writing of Reese will understand at a glance that the articles were almost completely re-written by TR.
