Mike is not really Tommy Lasorda's Godson. Lasorda's Godson is really Tommy Piazza's, Mike's younger brother!

He was originally a first baseman but then Tommy moved him to catcher because that's what the Dodgers needed.

Mike's lucky number is 13, but since he wasn't able to get that number when he signed on to the Dodgers, he got number 31 instead.

When Piazza got to the Dodgers, he requested a number in the 30s, and was about to be assigned #36 when the equipment manager remembered that Roger McDowell had yielded #31 in favor of #17, which was available since Bobby Ojeda had moved on to Cleveland.
