1983- George Bamberger and Frank Howard share the managing job for the Mets this season. On October 13, Davy Johnson is named Met manager.

Major Trade News: Tom Seaver was reacquired from the Reds.

Other Notes: the Mets tie the major league record with twelve pinch hit home runs (Danny Heep leads the NL with 4)

Rusty Staub collects 24 pinch hits, which is one shy of the major league record.

Staub also collects 25 pinch RBI also tying the major league record.

Jesse Orosco leads the Mets staff in wins and saves.

-For these feats, Orasco was also named the NL's Pitcher of the Month for August.

1984- The Mets record, under new manager Davey Johnson has much improved they are now 90-72, posting 2nd place. They also have the fourth best winning percentage in the majors.

Major Trade News: The Mets don't resign Tom Seaver's contract, so the Chicago White Sox get him from the free agent pool.

Other Notes: Dwight Gooden won the NL Rookie of the Year Award.

Dwight Gooden leads the majors in strikeouts with 279.

1985- The Mets manager, Davey Johnson, helps to lead them to a 2nd place finished, with a 98-64 reocrd. Posting the 2nd-best win total in club history and 3rd best winning pecentage in the majors.

Major trade News: Catcher Gary Carter, acquired in trade with Montreal, leads the Mets with 32 home runs and 100 RBIs.
Other News: Dwight Gooden, 20, becomes the youngest pitcher to win a pitches most potent award, the (NL) Cy Young Award.

Dwight is also the youngest 20-game winner in modern major league history.

Keith Hernandex wins his 8th straight gold glove

Keith also sets a Major League record with 24-game winning RBIs.

The Mets are eliminated on the last day of the season.

1986- Davey Johnson leads the Mets to a 1st place finish with a 108-54 record.

Major Trade News: George Foster's career ends when he is released by the Mets.

The Mets post 108 wins and become only the 9th team in modern history to do so.

On September 10, they were ahead of the NL Wast by 22 games, the largest lead by any NL team in the history of NL Division play.

Gary Carter ties a Mets club mark with 105 RBI's.

Keith Hernandez wins his 9th consecutive Gold Glove and posts an over .300 batting average for the third straight year.

Ace hurler, Dwight Gooden becomes the first pitcher in major league history to strike out 200+ in each of his first three seasons.

Sid Fernandez also strikes out 200 batters.

five Mets appear on the All-Star team.

Jesse Orosco's 21 saves moves him to first on the Met all-time save list.
