Do you have a Sailormoon-themed webpage? Or are you starting one or considering starting one? If you, you seriously need to read this page.
I am compiling this to help you: there is so much out there, and no one wants to waste valuable time. Make your site worth it.
Please don't:
- Have large graphics at the top of your page. They make it difficult and slow to load, and naturally gives your viewers a sour and critical ('This had better be worth it!') disposition when looking at your page. Small graphics are desirable. If you have large graphics you really want to use, make a thumbnail of them, shrink them, or put them in a spot on one of you pages where they can be seen after the viewing of information.
- Put your awards, webrings, or LinkExchange banners at the top of your page. This relates to the problem discussed above: they make loading slow and difficult. If you put them on your main page at all (I recommend making a seperate page for all of them, myself), put them near the end. Webrings are just plain irritating. I realize that you get a bonus with LinkExchange by putting it at the top of your page, but since that is to make advertising *for other sites* more effective, isn't it more logical for yourself to have it as a post-show exhibit on your page? And with awards, I realize that you are proud of them, but in general, it is nicer when things are better than they first appear to be. A lot of awards don't mean anything... and even if they do, you shouldn't need a little emblem to prove that. ;)
- Use a lot of headline type. It wastes space, and looks unprofessional. (read: newbie)
- Use a type that can't be seen on a white background (since backgrounds often take a while to load). This is often an error made by accident. Please consider it in the future.
Please:
- Have your e-mail address in an obvious place.
- Divide your information up on to seperate pages. For the sake of quick loading, have a small, direct main introductory page and then little pagelets with your information, pictures, etc.. Keep those pages organized and clear, too.
- Keep your English (or grammar, if it is another language ^_^) as proper as possible. This is just a pet peeve. I hate slang or pop-abbreviations (eg Whuz up ...grrr) that mutilates standard grammar. If you don't know, use Latin grammar. :)
- Edit your page once in a while. No one expects you to be perfect, but filtering out obvious errors is such a service to your viewers. {sigh...}
- Keep your counter at the bottom of your page. Again, for loading purposes. Also, it kind of looks like you are bragging if a lot of people have come, and it makes your site look bad if only a few have. Unless your counter is embedded well into your site's structure, I think it is more tactful to keep the little buggers inconspicious.
- Ask a friend to edit and critique your page. Another view point can be very valuable, as you are generally trying to appeal to the masses.
If you have a webring:
- Please use the table tags to keep your emblem organized: if you don't, their spacing can become random, and cause mass irritation with those trying to post and those trying to view your ring information.
- Keep your pictures SMALL!
And remember, Hotaru and the resident webmistress Isabel will forgive you! Simple correct yourself. :) Do you have any to add, or do you want to point one of these on my site out? (you've got to keep me on my toes, kids.) Please feel free to mail me. This page was 'inspired' by the The Worst Sailor Moon Webpages Ever page. And thanks to Ms. Manners for the indespensible tone in writing. What would I do without you!
