The mission of this webring is to provide learners of the Scottish Gaelic language and other interested persons a jumping-off point on the web from which to easily browse the myriad web sites dedicated specifically to the promotion and learning of Scottish Gaelic.
Interested in joining The Scottish Gaelic Webring?
First, please make sure your site meets the following criteria:
Family-friendly: observing accepted general standards of good taste
and appropriate language
Content addressing the language-learning needs of
learners ought to be foremost. If a commercial site,
the preponderance of merchandise promoted
must be directly related to the learning and promotion of
Scottish Gaelic
Regularly maintained and updated by the siteowner
(eg cleaning up defunct links)
The preponderance of the Scottish Gaelic language
itself used on the site ought to be "accurate";
that is, able to be verified by a reliable third party, such
as a reputable dictionary
or instructional text, a native speaker, or advanced-level learner,
to be within the parameters of
authentic Scottish Gaelic practice and usage.
This is not to discourage siteowners in the ring from creative use
of Gaelic on their web sites;
but merely to encourage siteowners to double-and-triple-check
the spellings, syntax and usage of Scottish Gaelic on their sites,
to ensure that learners
who visit their sites will receive the most
reliable help in their effort to acquire Gaelic.
The HTML snippet that all applicants to the ring receive after applying
to join the ring must be installed on the applicant's home page
before the applicant's site can be added to the ring. To not install the HTML code on the
home page causes a break in the ring, rendering the ring ineffective.
A week's grace period will be given for the applicant to install the
HTML snippet on their home page. If it is not installed within that time
frame, the applicant's site
will be dropped from the queue to join the ring.
If you would like to join the Scottish Gaelic Web Ring and
participate in the effort to help bring
the Scottish Gaelic language to the increasing numbers of seekers
on the 'net, please fill in the form below in order
to provide us with information
on your site.
