Dear Mr. Carson:

It would seem to me, after reading your letter dated November 6, 1996 to the Rogue Valley Historic Seventh-day Adventist Church, that you and those you represent, would seek to place yourselves above God. This decree that has been issued to this church manifests a desire to utterly stifle the consciences of individuals who call themselves SDA's but do not conform to your creeds. Dear brother, this shows a desire on the part of the General Conference Corporation to be lords over God's heritage. 1Pet. 2:11, 5:3; 2Cor. 1:24.

Upon what biblical principle is this persecuting action based? I find none that would sanction it. This does not agree with the word. Christ's Spirit does not compel the conscience, nor does it seek to use civil power to bring under submission those who do not agree with His word. The word will judge in the last day. John 12:47&48. Christ's Spirit gently persuades and simply gives an invitation to "whosoever will." Rev. 22:17.

Are you and the organization so fearful of those who do not agree with you that you must resort to obtaining protection from the civil authorities? The scripture says that perfect love casts out all fear. 1Jn 4:18. If you had perfect love for these individuals who do not agree with you, you would have no fear of what they might do to your "good name." Your dependence for protection is clearly not being put upon the Master of the universe, but upon the master deceiver. Is it really our place to protect the "good name" Seventh-day Adventist? Did you give this name to God's people? Please hear. God gave the name to God's people and it is His to protect and His alone.

God's true people do not need nor desire the courts of the land to make decisions for them in matters of religion. This, in fact, is an abomination in the eyes of God. This action crucifies Christ afresh because those who do this show that they have chosen another husband. They do not seek protection from God, the giver and sustainer of life. 1st Corinthians 6:1-8 condemns what you and the G.C. Corporation are doing. Please read it if you will.

I have read your responses to some of the letters you have received from other concerned individuals regarding your letter to Rogue Valley. When you write that you will take into consideration their advice while you continue to pursue this action, you belittle and show a spirit of sarcasm. This is obviously not an honest response. It would be honest to say simply that you do not agree and plan to continue your pursuit. I do not see Christ in your communications.

This letter is a plea from one who loves you and is heartbroken over your decision to participate in the persecution of people who love our Father in Heaven and who love you and those whom you represent. Please don't consider this just another letter. Please hear the plea intended for your heart. Please do not crucify our saviour afresh.

Your servant and friend,

Paula J. Holleyman
