As Head Coach of Water Polo and Assistant Coach of Swimming I would like to tell you about the school and our aquatic programs.
Each September the Varsity players return for a 12 day preseason camp prior to the start of the academic year. We practice 3 times a day; the morning sessions are spent swimming and conditioning, the afternoons are devoted to individual skills, and the evenings are used to practice team offenses and defenses. In 1998 and 1999 we will have a coed team, leading to a new girls Varisty and Junion Varsity team in time for The Hill's 150th aniversery.
Once school begins we practice once a day from 3:30-6:00. We have three experienced coaches and generally have 13 Varsity and 15-25 Junior Varsity players. The practices are designed to maximize each player's potential.
A typical season consists of 22-25 games including the following tournaments; Villanova Invitational, Greenwich H.S. Invitational, U.S. Naval Academy Invitational, and the Eastern Championships. These tournaments provide us with the best possible competition on the east coast. We have a very successful program consistently finishing in the Top 6 teams at the Eastern Championships which are open to the 62 teams currently playing polo at the High School Level. The 1997 team played very well, finishing with a 17-8 record and 2nd Place at this year's Prep School Championships.
At the conclusion of the Fall Term we begin swim season. The team is consistently in the Top 10 at the Eastern Championships, swimming an extremely competitive schedule including Lawrenceville, LaSalle, Loyola, St. Joe's, Malvern, and perennial powerhouses Germantown Academy and Peddie. As with polo we train once a day and stress high intensity workouts.
Virtually all of
our team members go on to top colleges where they are successful
not only in the pool, but more importantly in the classroom. I
believe that The Hill gives the best possible balance of aquatics
and academics that is available anywhere. I sincerely hope that
you strongly consider The Hill School to further your education.
It is a tremendous school. You will be challenged each day to
become the best possible student and athlete. In addition you
will make friendships among teammates and classmates that will
last a lifetime.
