Memo

Well, Harry, here I am at Churchill Downs, and don't you start teasing me again
about not being interested in a real relationship with anyone unless they
neigh, eat hay and make manure.

I have a few favorites for the Kentucky Derby and even though I've gleaned
through all the stats on past wins and have spoken to the bookies, I am
compelled ( yet again )to pick my favorites based on their eyes.

I am upset that one of my favs has been scrapped due to a bellyache, poor baby.
That's one stall I don't intend to visit with the rest of the VIP's before
things start up.

But why tell you all this? Well, I'd like to place a bet for you too. Even if
you don't win, think of contributing to the economy. How about it?

Edie, pumpkin, if you want to waste your money on a horse race, that's your
affair. But picking your favorites by what they look like? It's a horse race
sweetie, not a beauty contest.
Why don't I run all of the entries' stats though Seaview's computer and see what
she says about the best bet?

Harry Darling, thank you but no thanks. I want no part of that blasted sub's
`help'. She's stolen Lee away so many times that I'm not on speaking terms with
her. I'll pick my horses my way. You can pick them yours.

PS, I met a trainer here who has a horse for sale. He, (the horse, stupid) has
a great dam and sire. But a bit too high strung for his own good and snorts a
lot. A bit like you, brother dear.

It will be interesting to compare our choices. Am including Seaview's pick with
this message. How about a small wager? Your picks place and I humbly agree to
buy the damn horse for you if you decide you want it. If my choices place, you
agree to apologize to Seaview. In person.

Apologize to that tin can? Who put you up to that bet, Lee? In any case, you're
on. I'll go ahead and reserve a stall for my new baby. Not sure which stables
though. Boston's no good. And I'll need a trainer, a horse master, grooms,
jockeys, etc…so you'd better be prepared to postpone Seaview's paint job. By the
way the horse's name is `Red'. It's like fate. Too bad he's not running today.

How did you know about Seaview's new paint job? It hasn't been scheduled yet.

Red, hm? Well at least it'll be a Nelson.

Okay bro, here are my top 4 picks for the derby:

Midnight Interlude
Pants on Fire
Twinspired
Shakleford

Let's see if Seaview can do better!

PS. Speaking of Seaview, since you'll be buying Red for me my picks place, how
about making Lee happy and paint his`baby' red too. Might as well. He'll never
keep bugging you about it.

Absolutely not! Lee will just have to go on dreaming. I can take it.

By the way, you do know don't you, that he's not all that fond of horses? Fell
off of one once; never really trusted them since. Of course, it turned out it
was a stunt horse, that the dude ranch mixed up with the trail horses. Something
triggered it to rear up Lee came tumbling down in the tumbleweeds.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your derby. By the way, you're not wearing one of those
ridiculous hats?

Actually, Harry, you'll be able to pick me out from the crowd. I'll be in bright
pink, think Bubblegum or Barbie. The hat's complete with white feathers, to
match my ensemble.

And before you think of some snide remark, even some of the jockeys have pink
colors. So there.

Very well, I'll be a gentleman and say nothing further except have a great
afternoon, and may the best horse win.

PS Neigh. Neigh. Snort snort. (That's horse for "I told you so.")
