Pyar To Hona Hi Tha is a film that deals with Sanjana (Kajol) of Switzerland, who is a clumsy character, and too scared to borad an airplane. The story starts of by Sanjana loosing her love, Rahul (Bijay Anand), to Nisha (Kashmira Shah) back in India. Since she's so madly in love with Rahul, she follows him everywhere, and even dares to board a plane, where she meets Shekhar (Ajay Devgun), a thief. After her arrival in India, she soon notices that her baggage is stolen, after which she is forced to run. She does this instead of running behind her love. She finds her baggage, without knowing that something of Shekhar's is going with her, for which he has to follow her this time.
While going to Paali Hill, he helps Sanjana find Rahul, by which time he has fallen in love with her himself. Unfortunately, Sanjana is still not in love with Shekhar; she is still determined to get Nisha and Rahul separated. Is she successful? What ever happened to Shekhar? Does Rahul succeed in breaking Sanjana's heart?
One may remark that this film is a remake of the English film, French Kiss. Although usually, remakes turn out to be flop films, one can say that due to the excellent team-work of the people in this film, this particular film will not be one. Both, this and its original version can equally be enjoyed to the fullest. It also has beautiful scenery and good songs throughout.
Kajol, as usual, is brilliant in her role as Sanjana. She makes you cry, laugh, get angry, and smile all within the two-and-a-half hour movie. She is the LIFE of this film, especially with her strong comments like, "All men are bastards!" Ajay Devgun also performs well for his role. Om Puri, Bijay Anand and Kashmira Shah are brilliant in their roles too, making the film simply unmissable!

The Music:

Pyar To Hona Hi Tha has music given by Jatin-Lalit. For the second time this year, Kumar Sanu has shined in an album by them! Sanu has only one song, being the best of the all. The music is an added benefactor, as well as the lyrics. "Jab Kisiki Taraf Dil" is the song by Sanu and has brilliant music. Although this music is nothing overdone or overly creative, a simple mix of instruments brings this song to its height. The lyrics are a splendidly done by Vinoo Mahendra. This is the only song with Vinoo's lyrics.
The next song, "Ajnabi Mujhko Itna Bata", sung by Asha Bhonsle and Udit Narayan, has many derivatives from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge's "Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main" and "Na Jaane Mere Dil Ko Kya" and even a bit of Khiladi's "Waada Raha Sanam", and is quite a good song too.
The next Asha-Udit song, "Aashique Hun Main" has a foot-tapping beat, but Jatin-Lalit are trying too much with their singing. Asha is definitely more suiting to the vibrato than Alka Yagnik. But the song still sounds like a bad copy of a 70's Pancham number.
Another J-L marriage song, "Aaj Hai Sagaai". Seems like one of those cassette companies will soon release a "Jatin-Lalit Marriage Songs" album. The song takes some from "Mendhi Laga Ke Rakhna" from DDLJ and "Chal Pyar Karegi" from Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai. It is sung brilliantly by Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik, which makes it sound good. "Jo Hona Hai" is pretty much typical run of the mill Jatin-Lalit, though there is a bit of odd wacky music, including a little Macarena fling in the middle. A bunch of singers sing this song. The final song of the album "Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha" is also pretty much run of the mill J-L. This song is marginally better than average. Remo Fernandes and Jaspinder Narula sing this final song, Remo and Jaspinder both impress with their variety of vocals, although Remo's pronunciations of the Hindi is quite bad. Jaspinder fares quite well with her singing and language pronunciations.
One may say that Jatin-Lalit could have done far better, compared to their several previous hits, one of them being DDLJ. Over all, an average album.
