Share the Legacy of John Muir!

In 1892, naturalist John Muir helped form the Sierra Club to help preserve the pristine beauty of the Sierra Nevada range in California. Since then, thousands of Sierra Club members have followed in his footsteps - to preserve our magnificent wild places and protect our natural environment.

The Sierra Club has over 100 years of experience in protecting the Earth. You can become part of that proud tradition. The Sierra Club today is engaged in the important environmental issues of our time. By joining the Sierra Club - America's premier grassroots conservation organization, you can make a difference!

I have been a member of the Sierra Club for nearly 30 years. I've been a member and am a member of numerous other environmental groups, but I think the Sierra Club is the best national group. The reason is its grassroots strength. We have chapters and groups in every state in the U.S., and members serve through not only these local chapters and groups, but through regional and national committees. This grassroots strength, tied with our hard-working albeit low-paid staff, gives us an appeal few groups can match. We've got people of all ages volunteering for the Sierra Club, from high school students to senior citizens and everyone in between.

If you love the outdoors, if you care about survival of both the human species and other life-forms, you should join the Sierra Club!

The purposes of the Sierra Club

"To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environments."
