Pt.9
                          *1*
     Madison fit herself quite comfortably into the life of the
people. She befriended the thieves and thugs, gaining her some
"loyalty". She made an alliance with a number of pickpockets who
kept her apprised of the comings and goings of suspicious
persons.
     A few days later at dinner a new girl came in. She strode up
to Madison and they crossed wrists in the Egypto fashion. Madison
grinned. "What brings you here?"
     "I wanted to make sure you didn't forget our appointment
tomorrow." Sekhmet said with a small measure of good humor.
     Madison stood. "Come, let us speak of this outside." Once
outside they contacted Cassandra and teleported to her rooms.
     *                                                   *
     They were surprised to find most of the group assembled.
"What took you so long?" asked Amanda.
     Madison glared playfully at her and stuck her tongue out.
     Cassandra snapped and all attention was brought to her. "The
attack commences at dawn. Prepare your groups. Uranus, you said
you have somewhat of a following?"
     Uranus nodded. "That was easy. They'll be ready."
     "The thieves and thugs are under my command." Madison
reported.
     Magneto smiled. "I've set traps to warn us along the edges."
     Morph grinned and shifted into a common looking villageman.
"I know who the spies are." he cackled.
     Amanda held up a purloined necklace. "We know just about
every nook in our sector and have all the items SHE wanted. Where
is she anyway?"
     Suddenly, Narnia, an old man, a young man, and a young woman
with long hair appeared. Narnia was dressed in a gold, brown, and
green uniform with a bow and quiver.
     "Where are we?!" the younger man demanded.
     The old man studied Narnia. His face lit up. "Richard this
is an ally don't worry." He took Narnia's hand. "You must be the
one Imagine spoke of. She told me she would send help. Narnia is
it?"
     Narnia nodded. "I am the Soul Warrior of Narnia. I request
your aid in the preserving of those on your world." She turned to
Richard. "As the Seeker I ask the same of you." She looked at the
woman. "And you also Mother Confessor." She waited for an answer.
     Zedd hugged her enthusiastically and she gave a tiny smile
for a moment. "Of course, we will." He turned to the others.
"Won't we?"
     "Of course," Richard said with a reminiscent smile. "Who are
the rest? They are not Westlanders or Midlanders."
     Morph stood and bowed. "Morph at your service."
     Sekhmet walked over to him and showed him the wrist
greeting. "I am Sekhmet, of the Egypto warriors."
     Madison respected this man and tried not to probe him too
deeply. "I am called Sonny by my friends. Anyone I fight with is
a friend."
     Magnet held out his hand. "Magneto,"
     "I'm Jake," a youth from across the room said.
     A young woman with short blonde hair and leather armor said,
"I am Uranus, but my name is Haruka. The ferret is Luna and the
cat is Artemis."
     A woman with even shorter dark hair smiled. "I am Amanda,
cat thief."
     A woman with long curly blonde hair smiled. "I am Susan,
also known as the Invisible Woman."
     Cassandra stood. "I am named Cassandra."
     The young man nodded. "I am Richard Cypher."
     "I am Kahlan." the young woman said.
     The old man grinned. "And I am Zedd."
     "You are in a very good mood Zedd." Kahlan remarked.
     "The one who told me of her also showed me much joy. I have
someone to introduce you to sometime." Zedd answered.
     Narnia suddenly grew serious. "The army will arrive in two
hours. Zedd, come with me. Kahlan, go with Jake and Sekhmet.
Richard go with Amanda."
     Kahlan looked at Jake and then back at Narnia. "Why are
children fighting?"
     Narnia groaned, not again.
     Wind circled around Madison. "Don't insult "children". You'd
regret it."
     Kahlan was impassive and Madison continued. "You are like a
friend I know, except luckier. When she touches people she
absorbs their mind, energy, and power. You just destroy their
mind till all they'll serve is you."
     Kahlan's face became ashen. Madison snarled and vanished.
     They all stared a moment and then Cassandra said, "Damn."
She looked at Kahlan. "I apologize for my daughter's words. But
you scared her and she does not deal with fear very well."
     The group stared at Cassandra. Her daughter?
     "She seemed strong to me. Not one to fear an ally." Richard
remarked.
     "One of her most strong features is her mind. Kahlan has the
power to destroy it easily and she has no mental shields. To
Madison it was like boasting of it." Cassandra told them. "She is
telepathic twice over."
     Narnia grabbed Zedd. "Get to work!" The two vanished.
Cassandra teleported the others back.

     Madison strode into Garret's presence angrily. "I need to
talk to you. Alone."
     He led her upstairs. Then she grinned evilly at him. "Sorry
about this, but......" She kissed him and he looked puzzled. Then
slumped to the floor, some of his energy gone. She made the
illusion of battle wounds and yelled for a medic. Of course, none
were present. But others were.
     "I took him aside to tell him of the army approaching and he
fell.....We must do something before more of us fall." she said.
     Predictably they all volunteered.
     *                                                     *
     Uranus had but to tell her admiring fans of the army and
they were ready. Sekmet, Jake, and Kahlan spread through their
sector. Amanda, Susan, and Richard waited with impatience.
Cassandra sat on the roof of the inn with Morph.

     Zedd watched as he and Narnia rose off the ground. She shown
brightly and caught the villagers and the advancing army's
attention. "I am a Warrior of the Creator. A battle is soon to be
fought here. I have set defenders, but I suggest some of you also
fight." She addressed the army. "Any who leave now will not be
attacked. Any who fight will be treated as those who have
rejected the Creator."
     Then Narnia started her vigil of Karidan with Zedd at her
side.
     *                                                      *
     Madison turned to the men. "Thank you." Then she flew into
the air as the army attacked. Magneto rose also not too far away.
He nodded at her and she nodded back.
     Uranus thought back on what Narnia had told her. She smiled
at her men. "Fight well." Then held up her hand and yelled,
"Uranus Queen Power!"
     Jake smiled at Sekmet and crossed writs with her. Then he
morphed into the red dragon. Sekhmet knelt on one knee with her
arms across her chest. She transformed into an ancient egyption
warrior. She and him split up to face the invaders.
     Cassandra and Morph started to fight those who had come to
the village to start fights on the inside.
     Amanda held her sword at ready and Susan vanished. She
grinned at Richard. "Time to dance."

     Madison used telekinesis to raise in the air and decided to
save hr weather talent for later. She used energy blasts from her
eyes and hands to bring down the soldiers who were at second
glance not even human. Her psionic abilities from both her mother
and Jean Grey were put to full use. Her power combined with
Magneto's held the invading army from the village border. 
     However, more troops were hifted to her area and she began
to tire. She put up walls of fire to give her a few moments rest,
but she was attacked from behind and she caught an arrow in her
left shoulder. Her self healing kicked in but used even more of
her energy. Sonar's ability seemed to be useless against them.
     She made a controlled fall to the ground and drew her sword.
She was grateful for the added bonus of the slayer's prowess.
Still it came to sheer numbers as she jumped, whirled, stabbed,
and hacked at them. One caught her arm and she had to fight left
handed.
     She fell to the ground and her sword fell a few feet away.
Her strength was almost gone. She winced and sat up as they
turned to walk away. She used up her teleportation in a quick
teleportation of innocents anywhere near the area.
     They turned back to finish her off and one swore, "Damned
witch! Stay dead!"
     She was happy for the information that they were
intelligent. She smiled, knowing what she planned was suicide.
She was sure her eyes were glowing red with the last ember's of
the fire she'd had since she was a child.
     She stopped all sound and projected her voice so they would
all hear her. She rose a shield around herself. "Lightning crash
and thunder roll," she said in an eerie, lilting voice. She
paused so the lightning could be witnessed and the thunder heard.
"Rage of skies, take your toll." The activity in the sky
increased.
     Her smile grew as the creatures looked at each other in
worry. "Sea of dust, blocking sight," air currents bought the
dust from the plains into the air. Their vision was impaired but
they could hear her perfectly. "Sea of sand, show your might."
The dust began to swirl and sting their exposed skin.
     Using her remaining telekinesis, "Earth shake, fold, and
shift," Tremors could he felt. "Soil, rock, and root lift." The
ground roared but they could still hear her.
     Her voice became after as she spoke, "Wind gale, in fury
blow," the wind moved more violently. "Gust and roar, your
strength show." The wind howled.
     She felt the heat of her fire welling up within her and she
focused on the dilapidated houses. "Flames leap, burn, and sear,"
she said. Her shield dropped and she fell on her back limp.
"Wrath of fire,"
     She felt someone leaning over her and the stinging, gusting,
shaking sensation was again held at bay from her. Ending it, she
said, "Enter here." Then she died.
     *                                                    *
     Uranus held up her hand, "World Shaking!" A ball of energy
flew at several approaching creatures. She grabbed her sword from
her dimensional pocket. After a while of sword fighting she
returned to energy type attacks. She tried her new one. "Star
Shining Spikes!"
     A bright light flared blinding them and sharp spikes rose
from the ground, spearing them. Uranus nodded in satisfaction.
     Amanda fought fiercely back to back with Richard. Susan used
a gun that Narnia had provided and she was hard to find because
of her invisibility.
     Morph fought the humans who'd sided with the creatures in
the form of a mythical griffin. He laughed and fought. Cassandra
fought from the roof and then joined the fray with her sword.
     Sekmet lowered her density except for her hands in which she
held her staff. It was nearly impossible to injure her. She was
like a ghost. Jake took them down by the dozens with his fire.
     *                                                     *
     Magneto magnetized the armor of the invaders and started
throwing them around. Their swords turned against them. His
shield was nearly impenetrable. He saw the dragon weighed down by
several unwanted riders and tossed them. <Thanks,> Jake sent and
continued on his way. Magneto continued to fight.
     *                                                    *
     But the sheer numbers took their toll. About that time, a
vicious storm cut through. Narnia gave them enough time to reach
cover and it took care of the rest of the invaders.
     When they were finished. Narnia raised her arms and the
storm ceased.

     As Narnia calmed the storm, the defenders gathered around
Magneto and Madison. Magneto was unconscious over Madison; his
shield protecting both.
     Kahlan turned to Narnia. "Did you cause the storm?"
     Narnia shook her head. "Madison made the storm and fire.
Pardon me." She knelt on one knee. Green energy spread over them,
healing them.
     Magneto woke and stood. His silence confirmed Narnia's fear.
     Kahlan knelt by the girl who still wasn't moving. "She's
dead." She stood up slowly. "What do you want to do?"
     Amanda stepped forward. "No! You don't understand. She's
immortal, she'll wake up."
     Kahlan and Richard seemed doubtful, but Narnia nodded. "Take
to an inn and keep the natives away from her until she wakes."
     Amanda tried to pick her up, but she was too heavy. Magneto
lifted her and went to the inn.
     Narnia turned to the others. "We must clean up and see if
any of the villagers are injured."
     *                                                      *
     Madison found herself in a crystal mountain valley. Seven
women stood before her. They formed a line up to a spiral stair.
     The first one stood before her. "I am the One that burns of
the Seven of Ruluth established by The Lord of Light of Imagine.
You have use your fire well. Now it is time to give it back."
     Madison studied the girl with silver-blonde hair and
recognized the girl who she'd encountered as a child. The one
she'd gotten her fire from. She produced a flame and gave it to
her. The girl nodded and backed away.
     The next girl had long red hair. "I am the WaterDancer of
the Seven Guardians of Ruluth established by the Lord of Light of
Imagine. You have caused the rain. Thank you." she stepped back.
     A girl with short blonde hair stepped forward. "I am the
StormChild of the Seven Guardians of Ruluth established by the
Lord of Light of Imagine. You brewed a storm to make me proud.
Thank you."
     The next girl had long brown hair. "I am the MindHealer of
the Seven Guardians of Ruluth established by the Lord of Light of
Imagine. You prevailed even with the damage to your mind. Thank
you."
     The next seemed identical. "I am the FleshHealer of the
Seven Guardians of Ruluth established by the Lord of Light of
Imagine. You have saved the Lord's people. Thank you."
     The next girl had long blonde hair was suspended in the air.
"I am the WindCatcher of the Seven of Ruluth established by the
Lord of Light of Imagine. Your wind has cleared the air of evil.
Thank you."
     The next had long dark hair and violet eyes. A wolf pup sat
next to her. "I am the WolfWalker of the Seven Guardians of
Ruluth established but the Lord of Light. You have shaken the
world out of it's sleep."
     The last stood before the stairway. "I am the Lighted One,
the Prophet, of the Seven Guardians of Ruluth established by the
Lord of Light. You have made a vow to the lOrd of Light and he
has adopted you as a child that you may live forever. Your
immortality is not what has saved you, but his grace. Through him
you are now reborn. Your past is as dust blowing away. He, as
your father will care for you. Welcome." She took Madison's hand.
"Go up the stairs to return to your friends."
     Madison started up the stairs and then turned back. "If
there are the Seven Guardian's of Ruluth, why are there eight of
you?"
     The One that Burns grinned. "He can do anything."
     Then Madison climbed the stairs.

     Madison stirred and rose. She felt weak, but she lived.
Amanda sat next to her. "Welcome back."
     Madison studied her. "Between the time you die and come
back, do you dream?"
     Amanda shook her head. "I haven't."
     "Do you believe in a god?" she asked.
     Amanda considered. "Before this I didn't, but now I'm not so
sure."
     Madison nodded. "I do." Then she went to sleep.
     *                                                        *
     Madison came to a feast served by some people Madison have
never seen. She walked up to Narnia. "Who are they?"
     Narnia smiled. "They are a group of Kerrada who are starting
a school here. There are many potential students. They are going
to make this village into a city. But first they are moving it to
Betwixt to keep it safe until it is stronger."
     Zedd walked up to them. "Narnia, I have a gift for you." He
held a sword that Amanda and Susan had liberated. "This is the
Sword of Joy. It will help you." He walked away before she could
protest.
     *                                                      *
     Madison found Garret outside. She ran up and hugged him. He
looked down at her. "There is no need for pretense anymore. I
know you are leaving."
     "Come with me." she said. "I love you."
     He looked down at her in disbelief. "You can't possibly. You
are far too powerful."
     "I've lost more than half of my power. Come back with me. I
DO love you." she said.
     He studied her. "I believe you." He sighed. "But I can't
leave my world."
     Madison nodded. "I understand."
     A voice interrupted them. "I can help." They saw a girl with
silver hair. "I am Faune Jerrikdau." She addressed Garret. "You
have the potential to be a Kerrada. Then you two could port to
each other frequently."
     He nodded. "Very well, they'll need someone like me." he
said with some of his old arrogance.
     Faune turned to Madison. "The Seven have asked me to do
something. Come with me?"
     "What?"
     Faune smiled. "I will take you back in time to the
unification. You will find out more there."
     Madison nodded and the two vanished.

     Faune brought her to a place that greatly resemled Wirres
Betwixt. Several people noticed them. Faune introduced a girl
with red hair. "This is my twin, Faethe Jerrikdau." She spoke to
her sister. "I've brought her to join the IUB. The others are
coming."
     Moments later several more beings teleported in.
     The next stepped forward, "I am Brand of The Seven of
Ruluth."
     A near identical twin to Faith appeared. "You may call me
Alley Cat to alleviate confusion." she said. She was just as
graceful as a cat too.
     The fourth Ruluthian counterpart appeared. He looked human.
His hair and eyes were brown. "I am Lanek of Pod Nee of the
Brinians."
     A long blond haired girl smiled shyly. "My name is Faith."
     Second to last a girl with green tinged blonde hair and
green eyes appeared. A large cat was beside her. She held a
bundle in her arms. "I am Rane of Shib. This is my friend," she
referred to the cat. "Fairl. We are both part of this IUB."
     Fairl seemed to smile at them. <Greetings on behalf of the
Halfling, newcomers and welcome.> she mind sent.
     The last grinned. She had long blonde hair, green uniform,
and a martial stance. "I am known as Lietenant Sarver, a
kamikazee of the Core."
     Another girl appeared. She had short dark hair and wore
glasses. "I am Beky Sarver. I am the founder of a system of
patrolling the multiple universes. We need you to join us. Your
strength will augment the IUCG and the other IUB's."
     Madison spoke, "W-H-A-T is an I-U-B and the I-U-C-G?"
     Beky grinned and explained, "It stands for InterUniversal
Being. The IUCG is the InterUniversal Council of Guardians. In an
IUB there are several people who are counterparts from different
universes. Deos links them and they become an InterUniversal
Being. I will meld your universal quantum signatures together.
Your subatomic particles will have the same amount of energy and
vibrate at the same exact rate. You will be able to talk to each
other mind to mind across universes and share one another's
powers. Do you all wish to join?"
     There were murmurs of "yes" from around the group, but they
had been assumed. All watched Madison to see her reaction.
     Madison nodded. "I would. Who is the one who decides what
powers go to whom?"
     "A centerpoint does that," Faune said. "Lieutenant Sarver
will hold centerpoint."

     They left a few days later and returned to Antarctica for
the debriefing.
