In 1972 I gave birth to my first child who weighed only 5 pounds 10 ounces. It was not long before I knew I had to make my own patterns or drown his tiny body in clothing that was so big he was lost within the folds of the fabric! That was just the beginning of my pattern making!
In 1977, we left the comforts of the USA for a 2 year assignment to the Azores. I had left many patterns home because we were restricted on taking only so many pounds of household goods with us. At that time we had 3 children, and the allowed pounds were quickly taken up. I thought it would be easy to purchase patterns on the Air Force Base. It was not long before I discovered I either made patterns for the kids clothing, or just plain went without! Finding patterns was a real problem, the sizes I needed were always out and not expected in for about 3 months. The result of that experience can be seen within the following pages of my Web site.
