AKC    Pug    Dog    Breeders    Advice

I think the Pug is a wonderful pet and a show dog, but most of all we must take responsiblity for breeding this magnificent animal because there are many inherited diseases the breeder must be aware of.The breeder should have his or her dogs background checked for these diseases and ask if x-rays have been taken of your dog's family and your own animals should be checked closely by a veterinary for the same problems. Breeding should only be considered to improve the breed, like keeping the colors true in our future generation of this breed; this is why we don't breed blacks and fawns together. Things like temperament and confirmation must be considered also. The future outcome of these little pups is in your hands, so we must be responsible and knowledgable about our breeding programs. Other pages on this site will be giving links to in depth information concerning these matters. Please take the time to read through them. I believe the Pug makes a great companion and a faithful little pet. Please take care to YOUR PUGS LIVING CONDITIONS, as you know, they can not take heat or cold.
