1998 Chopticon Tournament Summary




Notable Results:

103 - Justin Britain lost a tough semi-final match to the eventual champion but pinned his next two opponents to take 3rd.

112 - Matt Fletcher lost a heart-breaker in the quarter-final round to the eventual 4th place winner by a close score of 4-3. Matt then won his next two before losing another close one, 10-7 to the eventual 3rd place winner. Leading 5-0 in the 5th/6th place match, Matt got caught and was pinned in another heart-breaker to end up 6th.

119 - Buck Sampson lived up to his #3 seed by finishing 3rd. Buck lost to B.J. Treadway, the #2 seed from McDonough, in the semi-finals. He then came back with two strong wins in the consolation bracket to take a strong 3rd.

125 - Dustin Little also lived up to his #4 seed by finishing 4th. Dustin had a great semi-final match when he lost by the score of 4-2 to the eventual champion. He came right back with a fall in the consolation finals before being pinned himself, by last years state runner-up in the consolation finals.

130 - Justin Holman was unseeded but did a great job in securing another 4th place finish for the team. Justin lost a close 5-3 decision in the consolation finals.

135 - Blaire Surgent became Calvert's first champion after starting out as the #3 seed. Blaire defeated the #2 seed in the semi-finals before winning a close 2-1 decision in the finals.

145 - Jason Poore kept the championship streak going for the finalists by also winning a close one... 5-4 over a very talented #2 seed from North Hagerstown. Jason was the #1 seed had two pins and a major decision on his way to the finals.

160 - Scott McAdoo, the #2 seed, had a disappointing 6-3 loss to the #3 seed in the semi-finals. He then took it out on his next two opponents by scoring two falls in less than 50 seconds each to take 3rd. In all, Scott had four falls in a total of 7:57.

189 - Paul Sheran was the third champion from Calvert after winning the most exciting match of the tournament in the finals, 13-12. Paul was the #1 seed and scored two pins on his way to the finals.
