~BIOGRAPHY~

THE STORY OF SORG:

Sorg was formed in 1995 by founding members Victor Hemgren and Rickard Dahlin. Both played guitars and Victor sang. At the time both were living in the small town called Sigtuna just outside of Stockholm. There they met Petter Rosqvist which soon joined the band as the drummer. Now only a bassist was missing. Sorg tried out a few friends (Lars Göran & Alexi) for the part but none of them joined as permanent members. Soon enough they found a permanent member called Olle Bodin who lived near Sigtuna. The Sorg line up was now complete.

The band's name "Sorg" means in Swedish "grief" or "sorrow" which could be said to fit in to the music of the early Sorg days. The music which Sorg started out playing was a mixture of Black Metal and Death Metal, plus some eighties influence. It had a very dark and brutal atmosphere. In 1996 Sorg recorded their first demo titled "Mina Drömmars Dal". This was the first release by the band and it was well accepted in the Swedish underground. Sorg then played some gigs with bands like Necrophobic and A Canerous Quintet.

Then in 1997 Sorg recorded their 2nd demo titled "Devastated Light". The band then began to spread the demo around worldwide and played a few more gigs, including the Face Front Festival in Piteå (North of Stockholm). T-shirts were prited up and distributed too. Sorg recieved many good reviews in the metal zines and it was now clear that the band had improved greatly. The 2nd demo had alot of variation including slow rifs, fast brutal riffs, eighties metal screams, and the so called "mighty horde roars".

In March 1998, Sorg had their final gig with the original line up. The drummer Petter Rosqvist was leaving to Hollywood in USA to attend a music school. He would be gone for two or more years so he had to quit the band. At about the same time, the bassist Olle Bodin left Sorg due to lack of intrest and to focus on his other Doom Metal band Out Of Hand.

Then in summer 1998, Micke Nyholm from the band Ad Infinitum joined Sorg and began practising on new material. Micke had joined Sorg to help out as a drummer until a permanent drummer was found. Micke also played drums on Sorg's 3rd demo, "Demo III" which was recorded August 1998. Since Sorg had no bassist at the time, Victor played the bass on the 3rd demo. The new material of Sorg had evolved into a more Death / Thrash Metal style and was now more brutal than ever.

After the 3rd demo, the Sorg project was put on hold for a long time. Victor had now also gone to the US to attend the same music school that the ex-drummer was at. Victor only stayed there for three months though and returned in December 1998. There was still problems with the line up and Sorg couldn't play any gigs. Micke Nyholm, the drummer at the moment also mentioned that he could not dedicate enough time to Sorg because of his other bands including Ad Infinitum, so he was forced to quit. Sorg have not played a gig in over a year now because of the line up trouble and Victor being gone for some time. In the meantime Sorg have recieved some minor record deals but turned them down. Some larger labels have shown intrest too, but asked for more material.

This brings us to the current situation in 1999. For a moment it seemed that Sorg had finally completed it's new line up with two ex-members from Soils Of Fate, Nicke Karlsson on drums and Henke "Trevor" Kolbjer on bass. After less than three weeks, Nicke was kicked out for lacking dedication to the band. Micke Nyholm returns to take on the drums once again. If this line up is permanent it is not yet known, but one thing is for sure, Sorg are now ready with all needed band members and will be recording some new material in early Summer 1999. This new material is mainly for the labels but might be distributed to those who want it too. It might just be a promo or maybe a first demo of a new band evolving from the old Sorg.

Around 1999 or 2000, the band known as SORG ceased to exist. The only two remaining original members were Viktor and Rickard. Viktor was going to move to Örebro (2 hours away from Stockholm) to study. Rickard was working but had plans to someday travel to USA and attend a music (guitar) school. The same one Viktor had attended some years ago. Basically there was no band activity during the next years.

In 2001 Viktor (still living in Örebro) had formed a new band called BRAIN DAMAGE. This a mixture of Death/Thrash, Rap and Regge. Some might even call it Nu-Metal. BRAIN DAMAGE released a demo on CD around December 2001/January 2002. If this is a new serious project or not is unknown to me right now. All I know is shorty after the demo's release, the drummer "Ojja" quit because the music was not realy his style. If Viktor continues with BRAIN DAMAGE or created some new group, or if there is any more activity from any ex-SORG members, it might show up on the page in the future. So thats were we are today in the History of a band once known as SORG.
