Stray Cat
Oh, what unhappy twist of fate Has brought you homeless to my gate?
The gate where once another stood To beg for shelter, warmth and food
For from that day I ceased to be The master of my destiny.
While he, with purr and velvet paw Became within my house the law.
He scratched the furniture and shed
And claimed the middle of my bed.
He ruled in arrogance and pride
And broke my heart the day he died.
So if you really think, oh Cat, I'd willingly relive all that Because you come forlorn and thin
Well....don't just stand there...
Come on in!

A Dog Sits Waiting
A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun
too faithful to leave, too frightened to run.
He's been there for days now with nothing to do,
but sit by the road, waiting for you.
He can't understand why you left him that day
he thought you and he were stopping to play.
He's sure you'll come back, and that's why he stays
His legs have grown weak, his throat's parched and dry
he's sick now from hunger and he falls, with a sigh.
He lays down his head, and he closes his eyes
I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies!

Only God Was There
by Stacy V. Clark
This world is a savage one, where people seldom care
About a little mongrel pup with wild and wiry hair
You were born into this life, your fate already sealed
Today, precious one, your little heart was stilled.
No family ever called you theirs so there was none to mourn,
There is no name to place upon your grave, no name you've ever worn
The earth has lost no beauty, The streets are no less cruel
The world has lost no laughter, no joy you ever knew.
One less soul is starving, one less soul is scared
One less soul quit searching for someone who would care
One less soul remains, and many more will die
One more soul is gone, and only God was there to cry.
