Jack
JACK

Jack was another accidental rescue. Our German Shorthaired Pointer came up missing. I started going to all of the animal shelters in a three city area. Each time I went to one shelter in particular this big black matted dog would jump against the wire enclosure he was in and whine trying as hard as he could to be able to get close to people. On my last trip to that shelter I noticed he was moved into another pen at the end of the kenel. Out of curiousity I had to ask why. I listened as the man behind the counter explained that the dog was on his last day and the shelter closed in 3 hrs. I asked why he was brought there and was told that the dog was to hyper to use. Too hyper? I couldnt believe that. Needless to say when I arrived back home that day I had with me a big black matted dog. He had a trip to the groomers and..wasnt hyper..had a trip to the vet and yet still didnt see that hyper side they spoke of. Under all that matted hair lived a male Portuguese Water Dog. We did figure out why he was taken to the pound. This water dog feared the water and was terrified with the sounds of a gun. He wasnt hyper at all. Jack is a laid back, "I just want to love you" type of dog. Good for nothing to a hunter, but a heart of gold beats in his chest. He enjoys nothing better than to just be close to people. And I must admit he scrubbed up real nice.
