Dear Martha:

I have tried to hope. I have tried to keep my faith. I have tried to endure. I have tried to help others. I have tried and have tried and have tried and now I am so discouraged that I don't care if I even try anymore to become anything or do anything. I am the only one in my family that believes in Jesus, and I have five brothers and two sisters, and my mom and dad fight all the time, and when my brothers and sisters laugh at me they laugh too, and tell me to shut up. So I have shut up. But I feel like exploding. Tell me what to do now, please, because I believe in the Jesus you told me about in the Doves and I listened every week to your program. I wish you were still on the radio here in Africa. I really do believe, honest.

Dear Broken Sparrow:

Have you not read it in the Bible that your enemies are of your own household? Have you not read it in the Bible that those that live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution? Have you not read it in the Bible that, Blessed are you when men revile you and hate you and curse you for righteousness sake, for great is your reward in heaven? Have you not read these things yet?

Have you not read that Jesus said when they smite you on one cheek turn to them the other one also? Jesus does not want you to shut up. Neither does Jesus want you to explode all over everybody with angers and with hatreds and strife's and fighting's.

Have you not read where Jesus said, I have not come to bring peace but a sword, and a sword of division and strife? Jesus said, I will set a family against one another and they shall fight and quarrel over Me and shall be at odds one with another because of Me.

Have you not read the promises in the Bible that GOD will keep you in perfect peace if you keep your mind purposed on Him? Have you not read that Jesus promises you peace, not as the world gives you, but true peace, that peace within you, that all is well feeling even though all around you is as a raging storm?

To have to shut up is not peace if you want to explode on everybody. That is anger. That is hatred. That is not peace that passes all understanding. Love does not have to grit its teeth in hatred and anger in order to be silent. Love is patient, and is kind, and waits for its opportunities to break silence and talk about eternal things.

When the disciples of Jesus wanted to call down fire from heaven and kill those who would not receive and believe on Jesus, Jesus told them, You know not what spirit you are of. Luke 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he (Jesus) should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them, And they went to another village.

Love does not have to grit its teeth in hatred and anger in order to be silent. When the mountains are falling into the seas, and the stars from the skies, and the earth is coming all apart at all of its seams, and even as it is in violence's and perils everywhere, you and I are in safe harbour. You and I are in a cave in those falling mountains, and safe. You and I are in the ark of Jesus Christ even as the waters flood. You and I are dancing around in the fires with the Son of God. You and I are living with the blood mark of the Lamb over our heads and in our hearts.

Have you not read that even as they were stoning Stephen for shouting aloud about Jesus Christ, he saw the Son of God standing in the clouds even as his eyes closed in death while he was being stoned?

I am not laughing at you. I am not mocking you. I am rejoicing that you in all of your family, love Jesus. I am rejoicing that you have seen His glorious salvation. I am also rejoicing, that you are a candle upon a lamp stand in that house that your light lights up the whole house with salvation. Have you not read it in the Bible that Jesus said He did not light you to hide you under a bushel basket but to put you upon a candle stick in your house that all may see Him in you? Jesus said you light up your whole household that all may see salvation.

Have you not read in Matthew the parable where Jesus speaks about the seed? It says, But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

Now, your family are as stones. You have received the Word in a stony place and with stones, hardened hearts. And if you do not let the word root deeply in your heart, by and by you will become so angry and so bitter and so hurt and so offended, it will make you even angry and offended at Jesus for the persecutions and the pains you bear because you believe in Him. You are tasting of the hatred and persecution that Jesus suffered.

Please endure and know that your soul is worth the sacrifice of God's dear Son on Calvary and His love toward you is so great, and so deep, He shall see you through this world and bring you into His Kingdom. Let His love for you be as a great umbrella and a shelter for you. Delight in Jesus and hope in Jesus and stand in Jesus and keep yourself lit like a burning candle in the darkness. For when you least expect it, your candle flame shall touch someone's stony heart and melt it that they shall believe. Be filled with love, because love is stronger than death itself, and shall endure everything and all things and love is the power that shall keep you when everything and everyone else fails. No matter what, there will always be Jesus!

I am praying for you to be strong and for your faith to fail you not!

Your sister in Christ, Martha
