ALWAYS LOVE MAMA
© Martha Miranda 1992

I love Mama, always Mama
I love her more each day
For I see a little of her in me
Only all the good things that stay

I love Mama, always Mama
I love her rod so hard
That made me do what I would not do
If she left me on my own

I love Mama, always Mama
She always was the perfect love to me
And even now a child to her am I
I guess I'll always be

The one she says you should have done
The one she says why did you do
The one she says when will you do
The things you ought to do

For Mama's will not just let go
Of all they hold so dear
And Mama's cannot just turn loose
Of precious things so near

Holding in her aging heart
The laughter of her little girl
Bringing home a skinny burr filled cat
Who just happened to follow her there

Who stole her shoes
And broke the heels
And stained her Sunday dress
Who broke her vase
Brought tears down her face
But I got a hug anyway

And when I got mad
I dumped down the drain
Her only little bottle of Tabu
All I heard was her crying all night
I wish she had beaten me black and blue

We were poor, so, so poor
That time I did not get a spanking
But I remember well the sound of her tears
And the broken heart that I gave her

Oh I love Mama, always love Mama
I love her more each day
I want to see a lot of her in me
For soon she'll be gone away

And all I will have will be memories
Of all the good and the bad
And I'll love Mama, always love Mama
For the life she formed in me
I'll love Mama, always love Mama
For the life she formed in me
