I AM SORRY
© Martha Miranda 1992

I am sorry is the sorriest word
I have ever heard
I am sorry is the sorry word
People beat their tongues to death

I am sorry. I am sorry
All day long I hear
I am sorry. I am sorry
Beating in my ear

When can one I am sorry
Heal a broken heart?
When can one I am sorry
Make a brand new start?

How can it put together
What is broken now
By a hateful or hurtful word
That has gone before?

I am sorry has become
The path to do the more
And then say I am sorry
Then go on like before

Those who have to say,
I am sorry, sorry, sorry
Only plan to have to say
I am sorry, sorry, sorry

O my God, deliver me
From the words of I am sorry
That I don't have to say them
To any that I love

And God please deliver me
From I am sorry all day long
For those that say I am sorry
Sing it like a song

Every day they sing
The same old sorry song
I am sorry. I am sorry
Can't we get along?

And then they get so angry
You're tired of their sorry words
Do what I do when they do
Say I am sorry, sorry too

I am sorry that you're sorry
I am sorry I'm sorry too
I am sorry but we'll have to part
I am sorry has to go

I am sorry has just worn me out
I am sorry is his name
I am sorry is that ugly word
That shall burn up in the flame

For I am sorry only says
I know it's wrong, so what?
The last one I am sorry says that to
Is the one before he goes, POOF!
