WHAT'S A SPARROW WORTH?
© Martha Miranda 1996

A sparrow before his time
A bird without wings
A soul without a resting place
This lovely Brother of mine

A flight without a destination
A soul without a purpose
Alone at birth, alone at death
This lovely Brother of mine

He never met a stranger he did not help
He never harmed one living soul
He never ceased to be gentle and kind
This lovely Brother of mine

Though cursed by the snake
Though consumed by the serpent
Though tormented till departure
This lovely Brother, he is mine

A flower gone before his time
The world was not worthy
Of such a fragile loving soul
This lovely Brother of mine

I'll be seeing you, I promise
With the ones who gave us life
My lovely Mother, a lovely Father,
And you, lovely Brother, all are mine

I'll be seeing you, in a lovely place
I'll be holding you, in a loving embrace
We shall laugh at all the sorrows
We shall smile at all the tears
And forever we shall praise one name
That Mother taught us here

He is the strength of life
He is the strength of death
He is the strength of victory
In that final hour
It is not the journey that is seen
It is not the beginning that is known
It is just the ending that really matters
Standing there at His throne

O grave, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?
The circle cannot be broken
From the cradle to the grave
Mother's children shall be gathered
To her living, laughing soul
No more tears, no more crying,
No more sorrow, no more dying
No more death wishes, no more sackcloth
In the circle by and by

Brother, I'll be seeing you, in a lovely, lovely place
Brother, I'll be holding you, in a lovely, loving embrace
We shall laugh at all the sorrows
We shall smile at all the tears
And forever we shall praise one name
That Mother taught us here
What's a fallen sparrow worth?
There's not enough money to buy one
