AREN'T WE GOING TO CRY?

Ten little babies all in a row
One little, two little, three little babies
Seven, eight, nine, ten all in a row

Aren't we going to sing?
Aren't we going to pray?
Aren't we going to cry a little
Putting them in graves?
Where are all the little boxes
No silk or satin ribbons?
Aren't we going to cry a little
For these who have no names?

One little baby, no satin bow
No gown upon his little body
In the earth he goes
Two little babies, now there are three,
Four, five, six, and now there are more

That one would have been a great one in the earth
And that one could have been so great
He could have saved us all
And one way over there who didn't want to die
Never had a chance to say it or even ask why

Why were they hated so and what did they do?
Why did their mothers do away with them?
Were they bad babies? Did they commit any sin?
Aren't we going to cry for these little helpless ones?

Aren't we going to sing?
Aren't we going to pray?
Aren't we going to cry a little
Putting them in graves?
Where are all the little boxes
No silk or satin ribbons?
Aren't we going to cry a little
For these who have no names?
