Greeting with Shalom

R. Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson lamented how little "Shalom Aleichem" (peace unto you) is used when people greet and depart. (Likutei Diburim vol 1 p 4) When we say Shalom (peace) we not only greet the other person bu have an opportunity to bless them with the blessing of peace. When we depart, there may have been tension or disagreement during our encounter, and when we say "Shalom" we remember to humbly ask forgiveness if necessary and reestablish our peaceful relationship with the other person. - adapted from Y. Buxbaum's Jewish Spiritual Practices p 474
