THE SABBAT CELEBRATIONS

Beltane Celebration Ideas
Beltane, or, May Day is a custom found all over the world, just with different names. In Western Culture, the 1st day of May marks the celebration of Beltane. In the distant past this was the time of enormous bonfires and 8 days of merry making. Cows and other animals were herded between the 2 large bonfires to ensure their increase in health and number over the coming year.
Very few of us have cows to herd now, but as pagans and witches we too feel the tug of the season at hand in the time of Beltane. This a celebration entirely suited to family and children. Today, the symbols of May Day include hard boiled eggs, the maypole, chickens, frogs, leprechauns and fairies, ribbons and bows and picnics and barbeques.

THINGS TO DO FOR PAGAN FAMILIES:

COLOR EGGS, HANG EGG SHELLS ON A DESIGNATED TREE OR BUSH.
HAVE A "FAIRY TREASURE" HUNT (SMALL CANDIES HIDDEN IN YARD)
HAVE AN OUTDOOR PICNIC AND BARBEQUE.
PLAY "TOSS THE EGG" WITH HARDBOILED EGGS.
MAKE AND FLY A KITE.
MAKE AND HANG A WINDSOCK.
TELL STORIES OF FAIRIES AND OTHER LITTLE FOLK.
HANG COLORED "WISH RIBBONS" ON A DESIGNATED TREE OR BUSH.
PUT OUT MILK AND COOKIES FOR THE FAIRIES AT NIGHT.
PLANT A GARDEN OR PATIO PLANTERS.
