HAPPINESS

As the nightly shadows dance between the trees,
the moonlight whispers a soft-encouraging cry
as Sister Wolf calls to her mate far across the valleys,
and eagerly awaits for his reply.

Then out of the darkness
his song rings loud and oh so clear,
which echoes into the starry night sky,
and stirs the sleeping deer.

His heart pounds like a deafening drum
he turns and heads homeward bound.
Her call pushes him onward
as he races over firm familiar ground.

Sister Wolf lies beside her new-born pups
proud as proud can be.
Exhausted but excited of what her mate
for the first time is about to see.

Suddenly he's standing there,
his coat adorned with snow.
He looks deep into the eyes of his loving mate,
and she knows his heart's aglow.

He inspects his new additions,
he kisses them each in turn.
The cold, cold night has turned to warmth
there's much they can teach us, and so much we can learn.

Some find it hard to comprehend
others say to us its nothing new.
And I know that in their hearts,
out of happiness; wolves cry too!
