 Say Yes for Children' campaign ROXAS CITY -- The United Nation's International Children's Fund (UNICEF) has launched a campaign dubbed "Say Yes for Children" to generate public support for 10 actions critical to improving the lives of the world's children. Dr. Gepke Hingst, UNICEF Focal Officer for the Fifth Country Programme for Children (CPC V) for Capiz, said the campaign was launched recently by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Malaca¤ang to underscore the Philippine government's support to the worldwide undertaking. At the heart of the global movement for children is a pledge form, being distributed worldwide both on paper and through the Internet, which people can sign to express their support for 10 actions critical to improving the lives of the world's children. Pledgers also identified the three most urgent issues affecting children in their country. The "Say Yes for Children" is one of the most comprehensive international sign-up campaigns ever undertaken. The 10 key issues about children are: Leave No Child Out, Put Children First, Care for Every Child, Fight HIV/AIDS, Stop Harming and Exploiting Children, Listen to Children, Educate Every Child, Protect Children from War, Protect the Earth for Children, and Fight Poverty: Invest in Children. UNICEF and its Internet partner will collect all the pledges and tabulate the responses. Results will be given to Heads of States who would attend the United Nations Special Session on Children in September 2001. By doing so, UNICEF hopes to influence government leaders and help them set priorities for children. In the Philippines, the pledge forms also contain a list of specific actions that respondents can do if they want to join the Philippine Child-Friendly Movement. The movement is the centerpiece of the CPC V, which seeks to promote children's rights through inter-agency collaboration among UNICEF, government agencies and local government units in selected provinces nationwide.
