It's a
Jungle Out There

Ants are one of the few insects I know of that
live in colonies. They have a caste system too.
Harvesters, carpenters, soldiers, and the queen. I
wonder if ants are ever up for promotion. You'd see
an ant arguing with another ant behind a desk, "
Look, I've been carrying grain for you bozos for
years now. Who's in charge here? I want to know when
I get to be a soldier."
Ever notice that ants walk together in a line?
Where are they going? What's their hurry? I guess
someone told them about the new nightclub in town.
That's why ants coming from the opposite direction
keep running into other ants. They're whispering,
"Man, that place was hot! If you hurry, you
might still get a seat."

And then there's the male dung beetle that
literally collects bits and pieces of turd. It's true!
Saw it on the Discovery Channel. What it does is
collect the dung and roll it into a ball. The largest
dung beetle may grow to be only a few centimeters
long but may form balls of manure the size of apples.
(That's a lot of crap for a little bug.)
And do you know what the "dungball" is
for? It's for the female dung beetle. I guess the guy
beetle with the most dung gets to go out on a date
with her.
That's why I wouldn't want to be a dung beetle. I'd
be too indiscrete.
"Hey, Ross, where ya goin'? Comfort room?
Here, take this plastic bag with you. I'm trying to
get a date with Cindy."
Wouldn't it be cool if we could be like some
animals though?
Take the earthworm for example. Did you know that
earthworms have five hearts? It's true. I read it in
a zoology book. Can you imagine having five hearts?
"I'm sorry, Tina, but my hearts belong to
Nancy, Miriam, Audree, Liza, and Rachel. No one else."
Then we could start endorsing pork, potato chips,
and animal lard.
"Hey, boys and girls! I've had two heart
attacks, but I'm still as healthy as... an earthworm!"
And what about cockroaches? Those suckers will eat
just about anything! We wouldn't have to worry about
starvation and global hunger. And we'd have the
perfect excuse when the teacher asks for our
assignments.
"My brother ate it."
