(A) Marchand L. Barger was a boy of about six years of age when his father was drowned in the wreck of the ill-fated West Wind on the Ohio River, near Cincinnati.
(B) Marchand L. Barger grew up in New Castle, Ohio, but acquired the land in Farmington, Iowa which his father had purchased in 1842, located there and married an Iowa woman.
(C) This family is descended from Putnam Valley Barger family of New York.
