"RECREATE THE EXCITING ADVENTURES
OF INDIANA JONES"

To coincide with "Raiders of the Lost Ark", Kenner released
what to this day remains the best line of Indiana Jones toys
ever produced. While the facial details of the figures weren't
the greatest, the clothing and accesories were very precise,
and the articulated joints made for excellent "playability" by
allowing the figures to be posed realistically. Along with three
versions of Indy, a kid could play with Marion, Sallah, Toht,
the Cairo Swordsman and German Mechanic, two versions of
Belloq, and even the Monkey Man from the Cairo bazaar.
There were also a few playsets available, which like the quote
says, helped kids recreate the adventures of Indiana Jones. One
playset was a scaled-down version of the "Well of the Souls",

complete with a dozen snakes, breakaway wall, and miniature Ark of the Covenant. Another
playset was the "Map Room", which came with a robed Indy, floor map of Tanis, and a Staff of
Ra with a headpiece the size of a dinner plate. For transportation from playset to playset Indy
was given two choices. The first being a model of the army truck used in the movie to move
the Ark, and the second being a white Arabian horse, which galloped when two hidden
buttons were pressed.

In addition to the 3 3/4" action figures, Kenner also produced a 12" Indiana Jones doll, at least that's what the box said. The detail of the "Ken-dollish" Indy was pretty poor. His face bared a minor resemblance to Ford, but he sported a bushier Han Solo-type haircut. The doll's jacket and accesories were also fairly innaccurate, and his felt hat looked like a soppy dishrag.
