These interviews of our World War II generation are preserving our Tacoma Pierce County history. You can be involved by volunteering to help with the project, by donating to this non-profit project, or by sponsoring an interview of the person of your choice.

African American Museum Relocates

The African American Museum has moved into the old Children's Museum space at 925 Court C in downtown Tacoma. This new location gives them much more space for displays and events. Their new location has 3,000 square feet, about 750 sf more than before. The African American Museum (AAM) will retain further ties to the Children's Museum which is located a scant fifty yards away.

The Children's Museum (CM) offers free admission on Friday evenings. To encourage family participation and complement CM's free admissions, AAM will offer free story-telling programs on Friday evenings.

The AAM's Tacoma Room features displays and artifacts from some of Pierce County's early black citizens.

The museum's regular hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. For more informaiton, call 253-274-1278.

Tacoma Historical Society

Over the last 125 years, Tacoma has evolved through many different phases. The city grew from a small sawmill village to a railroad boom town, then to a modern shipping, manufacturing, financial, military, higher education, and medical center. All of these changes, and the people who made them happen, have left relics which are here to this day. The mission of the Tacoma Historical Society is to preserve this physical evidence of the city's past so future generations will have a link both to us and our forebearers.
