FT:  TORONTO - Roots Canada Ltd. will decide by year-end whether to make an
initial public offering to finance expansion. The 160-store chain is
negotiating a partnership with an unidentified German company and is
looking for one in the United States, co-founder Michael Budman said.
Roots had 1999 sales of $200-million, Mr. Budman said. CIBC World Markets,
a minority shareholder, is acting as the company's adviser on its
financing options.
