This is the homepage of the Algona, Iowa chapter of the Society of the
Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet singing of America,
Inc. (SPEBSQSA) We are a chapter
with 45 members from a 7 county area of North Central Iowa who meet every
Wednesday at the Algona Family YMCA at 2101 E. McGregor St. for fellowship
and to contribute to that special four part barbershop harmony. We
are a progressive chapter who has had many accomplishments in its 42 years
of existance. We have won the Central
States District chorus contest for small chapters seven times
in eleven years, and was the opening act for the legendary soul group the
Temptations at the Historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA. In 2000
we competed in the Buckeye Invitational first ever Small Chorus Contest
receiving 3rd place, missing the championship by a mere 8 points and competed
again in 2002 receiving 2nd place. With Kent Madison, Director
we hope for better things in 2003.
