An DC:UNG Email Interview with Tom Peyer

After having Tom Peyer join in the roundtable Legion discussion last time, I thought it might be fun to approach him by himself about dropping a few hints of what's coming up for those 30th Century teen heroes. And, well, he was happy to oblige ... Thanks, Tom!

DCU-NG: What's the latest word on the chances for a Supergirl/Superboy/Legion crossover?

TP: We're not working on one at the moment, but it's something we've discussed and would like to do at some point.

DCU-NG: Any clues as to the storyline that will introduce Thunder to the Legion-verse?

TP: Let's see... hmmmm... without ruining anything... Thunder's appearance in the 30th century (from even farther in the future) sets her off on a do-or-die quest that will soon have ramifications for the whole luckless cosmos... the Legion have no trouble embracing her as a comrade... M'Onel in particular identifies with her and takes a big brother interest in her... and we will see talking tigers.

DCU-NG: Will Andromeda always remain a dwarf with bad fashion sense <g>?

TP: If she's lucky. here's why we changed her: at her strongest and blondest she was a Supergirl knock-off, thankfully filling a void when there was no Girl of Steel. Now that there really is a Supergirl we wanted to take Andy in a more original direction.

DCU-NG: Anything in store for Brainy 5.1?

TP: Since his mom tried to murder him, his personality is settling comfortably back into the sarcastic range, but he'll be more of a team player than he was before his upgrade. He's about to go on a big inventing jag, which is both good news and bad news for the Legion. Brainy's my favorite, but some readers think I hate him and try to make him come off stupid. Brainy's not stupid; he's the smartest character I've ever come across. But the point I keep trying to make through him is that intelligence is not always enough to get you through life.

DCU-NG: Will Legion do a crossover with Young Justice at all?

TP: Why not? No plans, though.

DCU-NG: Catspaw anytime soon? Please!!!!!!!!!

TP: We're bringing her back, but we're changing her name to Dogspaw. And she's a snake.

DCU-NG: Will any Legionnaires (other than XS) return to the 20th Century soon?

TP: Reply hazy; ask again.

DCU-NG: Any other news you can pass on regarding the Legion?

TP: Beginning next month, LEGION has a new penciller, Scott Kolins. We're also splitting the two books up for the most part, following one storyline per title, with occassional crossovers between Legion and Legionnaires. The Legion of Super-Heroes team -- Brainiac 5.1, Ferro, Invisible Kid, Karate Kid, Kinetix, Leviathan, Live Wire, M'Onel, Sensor, Spark, Thunder and Triad -- will be stationed on the remote space station Outpost Allon. The Legionnaires team -- Apparition, Chameleon, Cosmic Boy, Element Lad, Gates, Kid Quantum, Monstress, Saturn Girl, Star Boy, Ultra Boy, Umbra, and XS -- will work out of the Metropolis HQ. Look for a greater emphasis on new villains and concepts, and fewer revivals of preboot ideas... the main exceptions to this approach will show up in LSH #114 to do opposite of all earthly things, if you know what I mean.
