  INSIDE FOCUS.

Marine for the Future

ALTHOUGH MARINE and other aquatic ecosystem forms approximately two thirds of all Indonesia territory, not many institutions put significant attention on marine conservation efforts. The public is also far away from realizing the coming threats to Indonesian seas. Telapak views that marine resources, if sustainably managed, will play an important role in the future of Indonesia development and livelihoods.

For the first part, Telapak prepares a network of marine conservation and fisheries monitoring throughout Indonesia. Telapak's role will be in providing technical and substantial support to organizations and communities directly involved with marine resource management and conservation. The in-preparation-phase project, entitled "Establishing an Independent Marine Conservation and Monitoring Network" is being designed to foster necessary actions to put in place sustainable marine resource management in Indonesia.
