This Index contains all the names, male and female that comprise two marriage license books, G and H, for all persons who applied for marriage licenses in the county of St. Joseph, Michigan during the years 1889 - 1925. Book G represents all people applying from 1889 through 1909; Book H from 1910 through 1925.

Part of this Index is typed and part of it is written in ink. Some of the typed names are so poorly done and over typed until they're nearly impossible to read. We're most grateful to the ladies at the St. Joseph County Clerks' office for their generous help in looking up the long lists of names we sent needing help in deciphering them. They were able to look at the actual applications for this task.

There are still many errors in the transcription of these old records due to the overstrikes and the inability to read some of the old handwriting. Every effort has been made to make these files as error free as possible for you to use them as tools in looking for places to further your genealogical research.

In editing these records the only changes made were the typed portions in given names when it was obvious letters had been transposed. No changes were made in the surnames. If we weren't sure of a spelling, we requested a check in the actual records for clarification.

This file is not meant to be taken as documentation for your family file. It is a help file. You will need to contact the County Clerk's Office to obtain certified copies of the originals for documentation.

We are in debt to Pattie S. Bender for allowing us the use of the Index to transcribe and much appreciation to her staff for helping us make this file as accurate as we are able.

• The price for a copy of each marriage license is $10.00 American money in the form of a money order or cashier's check. They do not accept personal checks and please do NOT send cash. Please include the Book Letter and Page number when you write. They are very busy all the time and your help will result in your documents being returned to you faster.
