The 311 Concert ExPerience

August 29, 1997, Nissan Pavillion- Bristol, VA This was my (hey, dont laugh!) first 311 concert (which sucks like some shit cuz i've been down with the funkin' groovin' tunez of 311 since the old-school days of "music"...sighhh...they just never come around here! =(). I wanted to go SOO bad but of course, I hafta depend on some1 else 2 drive me (can't drive yet and Nisaan is like, an hour away from my house =() and NO ONE that I knew was going. Finally, like 2 days B4 the concert, I got my mom to agree to drive me up there, under the agreement that I would pay for 3 tickets (my mom, sister, and me- my mom and sis aren't really down w/ the 311 groove thang but what could i say?), a hotel room, gas, and food. This ended up being over $200... but lemme just tell u that it was SO WORTH IT and I would most DEFINITELY do it again! ANYWAY...we got the tix, and when the day finally came around we left for Virginia. We got to the concert about an hour B4 even De La Soul was s'posed 2 go on, so I cruised around w/ fellow 311 fanatix and watched the band on the outer stage (Snot?) perform for a while...they weren't horrible...but it was such suspense and i couldn't wait for the REAL concert started...finally, we went in 2 our seats (in the 3rd LEVEL...for all those who've been to Nissan, you know where that is- it's all the way t'words the back of the place, right near the lawn)...I cannot express HOW MUCH I wanted 2 get OUT OF MY SEAT but the security guards there were HELLA strict and wouldn't even lemme SIT ON THE RAILING...anyway, after a little while, De La Soul went on...I'm totally not into their whole way of groovin' so I didnt really like 'em 2 much...it didn't look like any1 was really moved by 'em...but about an hour (?) l8r, they were done and all of a sudden a darkness fell over the entire place- the curtain that was covering the stage to allow our boyz 2 get set up in privacy was removed...and it started! They came on w/ Hive (I LUV that song- ...and I was so crazy w/ the tunez I ran past the bitchy security gal and jumped over about 100 rows of seats... and ended up towards the front!!!! They started up with Hive- definitely a hella good way 2 get the party movin'! The set went somethin' like this:
Hive
Freakout
Transistor
Silver
Prisoner
Don't Stay Home
Applied Science
Down
Beautiful Disaster
All re-Mixed Up
Nix Hex
Plain
Jupiter
Unity
Hydroponic
Light Years
Lucky
Galaxy
Homebrew
Loco
Feels So Good
ENCORE:
Do You Right
Fuck the Bullshit
sigh...they rocked so hard the entire fuckin' time...the only thing that mad me kinda sad was that the concert seemed to last for a HELLA short time (*SAD*), and that this dude behind me kept pulling my hair and telling me 2 move BCuz he couldn't see..but of course he was SITTING DOWN so I got kinda mad...if u'r gonna go 2 a 311 concert and SIT up in the FRONT, u should either stand up w/ every1 else or either let us all alone...sigh...but other than that, it was the GREATEST! I am still feeling withdrawal that it is over...but thanx 2 my man Chris, I now have a BOOT of the concert and can listen 2 it over and over and over...can't wait 4 the next concert! ***NOTE: if there's N E 1 who reads this and has/knows some1 who has pix from Nissan or from N E other 311 concert, pleez email me! thanx...
