George Clinton & the P-Funk Allstars

Review 07/06/97 From: Dr.Brookenstein

At the Sony Blockbuster Entertainment Center in Camden, NJ George Clinton & The P-Funk Allstars performed at the Sony Blockbuster Entertainment Center in Camden, NJ on Sunday 7/06/97. Their show began promptly at 9:50pm, and only lasted until 10:50pm (DAMN!!!!!)............ this was a "mini-show", NOT A REAL P-FUNK SHOW! The song set was: P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) intro Take It To The Stage (w/"Wipe of the Week" and "Get Off Your Ass and Jam") (Not Just) Knee Deep Sentimental Journey Rubber Duckie excerpt ("Fly.......won't you come fly") Tear The Roof Off The Sucka (Give Up The Funk) "Wind Me Up" chant (from "Bootzilla") Night of The Thumpasorus Peoples Disco-To-Go ending horn riff Underground Angel (w/ LaShonda Clinton) Booty (w/ Babblin' Kababbie Louie) Mothership Connection (Starchild) (w/ "Rumpelsteelskin","Everything is on the One", "Martial Law" scat) * THE MOTHERSHIP LANDS!!! * Hall of Fame jam It was a great pleasure to hear Belita Woods sing "Sentimental Journey" once again. "Wipe of the Week" is Treylewd's hilarious song about a man who prefers to be a woman!...........a funny addition to the P-Funk song lineup. Greatly missed from this show was "One Nation Under a Groove", "Flashlight", "Funkentelechy", and "Standing on the Verge of Getting It On". Also, it was great to see most of the P-funk horn players again (Bennie Cowan and Greg Thomas) and Rodney "Skeet" Curtis. The funkiest part of the show was seeing the "Mothership" appear from the ceiling of the stage area. At the end of the show, I spotted Billy Bass on stage talking to a fan, but I could not get close enough to say anything to him [that's the problem with the Sony Entertainment Center........too many freakin' chairs together......55 chairs in each row (in the pit area).....and the rows are so tightly compressed that passing through one is a pretty big task. I HATE THAT!!! Every 2 minutes, you have to get up to let people walk in and out of your row!! However, I did speak to Greg Thomas and shook his hand before everyone was forced to leave the premises. The players: George Clinton - Head Funkateer Garry "Doo-wop" Shider - guitar, vocals Lige Curry - bass, vocals William "Billy Bass" Nelson - O.G. bass Dwayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight - guitar Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton - super-funky guitar Joel "Razorsharp" Johnson - keyboards Frankie "Kash" Waddy - drums Belita Woods - funky vocals Sheila Brody - vocals LaShonda Clinton - rap vocals Robert "Peanut" Johnson - vocals Michael "Clip" Payne - percussion, vocals Paul Hill - vocals Steve Boyd - vocals Rodney "Skeet" Curtis - bass Bennie Cowan - saxophone Greg Thomas - trumpet Sir Nose - dancer, contortionist TRUTHFULLY, THE P-FUNK ALLSTARS SHOULDN'T DO SHOWS LIKE THE SMOKIN' GROOVES TOUR SHOW!! IT'S NOT FAIR TO THEM OR THE "ADDICTED" FANS, LIKE ME!!! P-FUNK IS BEST WHEN IT'S LONG!!!!!!!!
