Arrived at Middlesbrough on a free transfer from Italian giants Fiorentina in the summer of 2000, Captain of the Australian national team Paul Okon put Boro ahead of the likes of Lazio and Anderlecht. After winning the golden boot in 1996 in Belgium he secured a move to Italy but injury and the fierce competition for places that exists at the Stadio Olimpico gradually saw Okon slip down the pecking order. A move to Middlesbrough looked to be a new begining for Okon but a fractured foot bone his second full start for Middlesbrough meant missing the Olympics in his native homeland and losing a place in the boro eleven, one that he found hard to regain from Ince and Mustoe.
