Broke the British record transfer fee for a defender when he moved from Middlesbrough to Manchester United in 1989, for £2.3 million. Pallister's partnership with Steve Bruce for 5 years was easily the most successful in the Premiership. United won eight major trophies with Pallister and Bruce at the heart of the defence. England international centre-back who came "home" to Boro in the summer of '98 after nine successful seasons at Manchester United. Originally brought to the club as a raw teenager in 1984, Pallister shone in the Boro team that rose through the divisions in the 1980s, winning his first England cap in 1988, but has often missed out on the big occasion, such as Euro 96, because of persistent back problems. Pallister is still a regular name in the Boro first team simply due to his superb defensive qualities and vast experience.
