J'ai obtenu un poste de professeur d'anglais au Collège Dupaty en Novembre 1996, lorsque le poste a été créé par le Rectorat de Bordeaux. Il s'agissait d'enseigner la langue de Shakespeare à des enfants d'une section SEGPA dont les âges variaient de 11 à 17 ans. Tout au long de l'année, nous avons essayé, avec mes élèves, de trouver un terrain d'entente entre leur manque de motivation aléatoire et mon envie de servir à quelque-chose.
Il faut dire que les élèves avaient été selectionnés en raison de leur capacités academiques et que nous n'avons eu aucun problème à trouver des raisons d'évoluer ensemble.
J'ai beaucoup appris au cours de cette année, et j'ai seulement regretté de n'être présente que quelques heures par semaines, ce qui ne m'a pas laissé grand loisir de m'impliquer plus avant dans la vie du collège.

I was selected in November 1996 to become an English Teacher  at the College Dupaty, right after the Rectorat
( Local Educational Administration Board ) agreed upon the creation of the position. I was meant to introduce Shakespeare language to the children of the Special Needs Students section. My pupils were between 11 and 17 years old. All through the school year, we made efforts to find a common ground between their aleatory lack of motivation and my desire to make myself useful.
I must confess that the children had all been selected for their academic capabilities and we had no problem finding good reasons to keep improving ourselves together.
I have learnt a lot during that school year, and I only regret hat I was only appointed for a few hours a week, which prevented me from getting more involved in the school's life.

Qu'est-ce qu'une SEGPA?
La SEGPA a en quelque sorte remplacé les anciens CPPN et CPA, classes de pré-apprentissage. Les enfants sont orientés vers la SEGPA après avoir subi des tests qui permettent de cerner leur capacités et leurs besoins. Au Collège Dupaty, de nombreux élèves de SEGPA devaient faire face à des situations familiales très précaires, ce qui a malheureusement une influence négative sur le comportement en classe.

What is a Special Needs Students section in France?
The section replaced what was called CPPN or CPA, pre-apprentice section. Children are directed to the section after undergoing tests allowing educators to estimate the students capabilities and needs. At the College Dupaty, many children of the section had to face extremely precarious family situations, unfortunately this factor was of negative influence on their behaviour in school
 

La traduction a toujours été mon domaine de prédilection, même si j'ai du diversifier mes capacités. Etre face à un texte, le rendre vivant et parlant dans une autre langue qui n'a rien à voir avec la littérature qui lui a donné vie, s'approprier le travail d'un auteur comme on prend soin des enfants des autres....
Etre travailleur independant, c'est un peu faire ce que l'on veut, quand on le veut, comme on veut.
Au cours de l'année où j'ai oeuvré ainsi, je me suis familiarisée avec des languages différents, le tourisme, la restauration, l'aéronautique, les matériaux composites etc.
J'ai traduit des pages web, des manuels techniques, des nouvelles, ainsi que du courrier et autres travaux accessoires.

Translating has always been my favourite field of work, even if I have had to extend my activities to different options (teaching for exemple). Working on a text, trying make it live and talk in a language which has no common ground with the author's language or even with the literature that has created it, making someone else's piece of art mine, just as you do when taking care of other people's children....
Working free-lance gives you the impression you are doing exactly what you want, when you want, the way you want to do it.
During the year when I worked as a free-lance translator, I was introduced to different languages, tourism, catering, aeronautics, composite materials etc.
I translated web pages, technical manuals, short stories, as well as business letters and other accessories.
 

En tant qu'agent de recouvrement au Cabinet CRCM, je m'occupais d' enquêtes et de recherches très diverses. Une fois l'enquête terminée, il fallait mettre au point un plan d'accord amiable qui éviterait un procès trop coûteux et trop long pour notre client. Je devais ensuite vérifier le suivi du plan par les deux parties.

While working as an Audit Agent in the Cabinet CRCM, I was in charge of investigations and other researches. Once the investigation had been completed, it was my duty to establish an out-of-court agreement  in order to avoid a long and costly trial which would not benefit our client. I was then in charge of the follow-up survey for both parties.
