Ida Kelarova, the Czech singer (and voice teacher) is known throughout Europe for her interpretations of the songs of the Romani people:

"Everyone who sings creates. A song is a means of expressing one's innermost self. This is especially true for the Romani people. I believe that we should learn more of the meanings of their songs, if for no other reason to find the way of expressing our everyday pain and joy through our own singing".
