2002 ARIA winners for World Music, Rock 'n' Roll-Gypsy ensemble Monsieur Camembert present their unmissable homage to swing-king Louis Prima.

Before Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tom Jones or Tony Bennett ever played the stages of Vegas, there was Louis Prima. One of America’s most hypnotic and original entertainers, Prima’s career spanned several decades and turned out hits like That Old Black Magic, Sing Sing Sing, Angelina, Just a Gigolo and many others!

From his Italian-hits of the 30's, to the rockin' sounds of the late 50's, Monsieur Camembert brings Louis Prima’s music to life with their incredible energy, and arrangements driven by growling sax, swirling accordion, & Gypsy guitar.

Yaron Hallis, leader and vocalist of Monsieur Camembert explains how he came to write a show based on the life of this trumpeter/singer…

“I was completely taken by the humour and fun of Prima’s music, and was inspired to do a whole night of his music. Then, upon doing some research, I discovered his incredibly colourful and ultimately tragic story - from his five wives and countless romances, to his final three years spent lying in a coma - and I knew that I wanted to not only perform his wonderful music, but also to tell his story…”

Just A Gigolo – Camembert Does Prima has been performed to sell-out audiences at The Basement (Sydney) and the Gold Coast Arts Centre. Highlights of the show were also performed to thousands at the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival 2003.

Just A Gigolo features two special guest vocalists (singing the parts of prima’s 4th & 5th wives) – singing swinging sensation Nadya Golski or trombonist/singer extraordinaire Melissa Kenny.
