‘Stars’

Stars
The film unfurls upon its steady wings
The plot unravels while the singer sings
Upon these shades the stars do hold their sway
As stars upon the screen their lines do say
While out among the galaxies the gods
Observe and wait in patience we who plod
Our way at last into the telephone
Directory of cosmic starlit homes
The gods were once such shades as we are now
Cast for parts upon this earth to show how
Man his way may make with Ariel in tune
To storm the barricade of symbols soon
To reveal their hidden lustrous charm
Within the arms of Venus safe from harm
Thus our Destiny is ensured at last
As patterned energy is beamed so fast
From starlit spaces upon the faces here
Of moonstruck minions who, skirting Lear’s
Madness on borderlands of breakthrough
And Hamlet out of tune and harsh, woo
The Garbo of the souls intensity
As light, colour and mobility
Agreed the shades to grant a respite
From the cradle of the Earth’s foul cesspit
At last a star is born and wings its way
To divinely sprung divans of saffron. May
The mind evolved from ape to angel claim
To be a self-luminous celestial name
Where Time, an eternal flame, burns brightly
To light empyrean’s carouses nightly
And scorn Earth’s sordid tremors lightly
Far, far at last from morbid fears unsightly
